Windstorm, Sleet and a Castle Ruin – A Family Adventure, Waldschlössl-Style

This weekend brought back that “classic” Schneedörfl weather: windstorm, drizzly (and sometimes snowy) rain, and a steady 3°C – just perfect for a little family outing!

So why let that stop us? We put together a short but special hike – with a bit of logistical finesse.

The boys (Leno and Chris) walked down to the station and took the train to Klamm-Schottwien. From there, a roughly 1 km forest trail leads up to the Klamm castle ruin. It’s officially closed, but you can walk around it – and enjoy a great view of the valley. Meanwhile, Zita cut through the forest with a quick run and met us there.

We had about an hour to explore the ruin – just enough in this pleasantly frosty, windy “spring” weather. Afterwards, Leno and Zita walked back to the station while Chris took the running route home.

The return train left at 17:37, and Chris was already waiting at the station. From there, we walked the final stretch back to the Waldschlössl – ending the day together with a little uphill climb.

Route: Waldschlössl – Klamm-Schottwien – Waldschlössl

Distance: round trip 13–15 km (just 2 km round trip from the Schottwien station)

Elevation gain: 700 m

⏳it took Zita about 1 hour, Chris did it in 45 minutes (but there’s more uphill going out 😉)

Sleet or no sleet – it’s not the weather that writes the story, it’s us! And we think we made the most of it. 😅
