What do you do on Mother’s Day with a wonderful mom who takes care of our little one most of the time on her own? You take her out! And since restaurants are currently closed due to COVID, Leno and I took Zita on a hike instead.
I strapped Leno to my front, carried a backpack with enough water on my back (which you need even when it’s sunny and 25°C), and off we went through the Eng up to the Naturfreundehaus Knofeleben. The trail (Mariensteig) is partly a bit exposed, but well secured with a steel cable at that point — definitely not stroller-friendly. We reached the top in 1 hour and 40 minutes, which was perfect for us because that’s about how long Leno sleeps in the carrier.
Once at the top, he was well rested and didn’t want to stop crawling around the big meadow in front of the Naturfreundehaus or walking (with two fingers for support). Zita treated herself to a Coke, and then we headed back down. We had originally planned to grab a pizza in town, but changed our minds at the last minute and returned directly to Waldschlössl. Leno slept most of the way downhill as well, so all three of us arrived home pretty relaxed.
About 11 km, took us a little over 3 hours (we were moving quite fast with the carrier), 700 m elevation gain, red trail followed by yellow.
