Some days go exactly as planned. Others… don’t. Today, we wanted to head to Prigglitz, but with some luggage to sort, a changeover in the guesthouse, and a well-deserved load of laundry, the day got away from us. So we started later than expected and changed our destination: Grillenberg it was – and we’re so glad we did!
The route to Grillenberg is very family-friendly, and we wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone hiking with children. Along the way, you pass the Geyerhof – a mini paradise for young vehicle enthusiasts. Tractors, diggers, and all sorts of machines line up here. And of course, there are animals too: horses, cows – plenty to see and get excited about.
From there, we continued toward Grillenberg, where you can visit an old mine if you book in advance. We skipped it today, but the path there is already an adventure. After passing the mine, we hiked uphill and then turned off onto a lesser-known trail: the Grillenberggraben. That part wasn’t our best idea – thorny blackberry bushes and thick undergrowth made it a bit tricky. But in the end, we arrived at a tunnel we’ve seen many times before and always wondered: What might be on the other side? Today, we finally found out.
Another important question of the day was also answered: Can you sleep in the new hiking carrier? According to Leno: absolutely. The carrier passed the field test with flying colors. If you’d like to give it a try, just let us know – it’s in our stairwell next to another one.
Our route: Waldschlössl – Geyerhof – Grillenberg – Grillenberggraben – Waldschlössl
Distance: 8 km
Elevation gain: 280 m
Time: about 2 hours at a good pace
By the end of the hike, we were happily tired, the sun was setting, our questions were answered – and of course, new ones came up. Maybe next time, we’ll actually make it to Prigglitz.
